SEN transport to college

Hi, my DS starts college (Sen) 20 miles away next week. The transport team keep saying they'll get in touch but still nothing 1 week away from starting. We never needed transport before, is this usual?

It can be normal sometimes, I’m afraid. Some LAs are last minute. Sometimes to the point of being the day before the start. Not helpful for DC who need to know plans in advance.

Thank you. Yes indeed, so much for planning even though I understand they are under pressure I'd like to know they have not forgotten

I would chase them. Even though they will most likely say they will be in touch soon.

For my first application I didn't know until the day before only because I spoke to the school and got the information 4 hours into the first school day that was a few years ago. 2 other parents who use SEN transport haven't heard either this year. I've been badgering them and they said they haven't done my formal assessment yet but I'm entitled and will try do it for the new term even though I've done it on time. Fingers crossed it's sorted for you I think they finalise it and let everyone know at the last minute or the transport just turn up. It's a bit ridiculous really because we need to know the information.

Thank you. Indeed, do they really expect us to hand out our children to someone just turning up at our door!? Let's hope it gets resolved, thank you for confirming it is not rare

Last day of term LA sent letter to parents to say over 16 travel needed to be paid for. Start of this term we have many children without transport and being told it will be several more weeks to get through backlog of children left in lurch.
