Er,he's not a 'Down's Syndrome boy'. He is a boy with Down's Syndrome. There is a big difference.

LJ,the article said it too.
I agree with your point though. It's bonkers.

good god .

Although one has to wonder what narrow-minded person would report such an incident in the first place.

Am surprised the parents of the other child had not given comment ?

They were talking about this on Radio Scotland tonight. Part of the problem seems to be that it is a new statutory offence - 'racial assault' which our wonderful modern politicians have drafted to not include the question of capacity whereas most criminal law in Scotland is still common law which has always accepted that capacity is an important factor. New is not always better I suppose.

I think that some people with downs are capable of being nasty and outright racist. People with Downs vary considerally.

The fact that this young man was in specialist unit shows how severely affected he is. His mental age is well below the age of nine and he should not have been arrested, yet alone charged.

Its political correctness gone mad.

moondog · 17/04/2008 23:22

Yes RT,very true.
Dubious also to believe that all people with Downs are 'very gentle' and 'love music'.
They are all differnet,in the same way that people without Downs are.

Article deeply dodgy on so many levels.
