books for under 5's ......Are there any that include characters with sn?

Anyone know of any good books for under 5's which include characters who have special needs?
Any suggestions most welcome as I am discusted to find none so far.

I have a grown up dd with sld. She is autistic.
I also have an almost 3 year old whose passion is books, stories, making up stories and pretending to be a teacher

dd2 asks so many questions about her sister (who has recently gone to live in residential care)
I am also about to become registered as a childminder and it is a requirement to have inclusive materials such as books and toys etc.

Look at NAS website and Jessica Kingsley as they have lots of books for siblings about SN and there are lots of children's "novels" featuring characters with AS. There is one set in particular, can't remember the author but remember that one is called something like The Blue Bottle Mystery.

mine love Victoria's Day - it's a sweet book about the day of a little girl with DS - it doesn't mention her having DS, just documents her day (getting ready in the morning, nursery, shopping, trip to the park, helping mummy make dinner, bedtime) with photos and simple text.

Where's Chimpy is another book along the sasme lines - a photo story about a little girl with DS who is looking for her cuddly toy. Again very nicely done.

Susan Laughs sounds really good, I've not read it but the reviews are great.

There is a publisher www.childs-play.com their books have signing in them and also contain illustrations of children with different sn. A picture of my son in his boots and bars for talipes was used for and illustration in 'Wind the Bobbin up' DS thinks it's funny unless he's a bit cross with his brace then he gets the book and hit's the picture. Useful communication from a 20 month old!

Worth a look
