Best tracker for wandering child (AirTag?)

DS5 is a bit of a wanderer. He will just walk off without a backward glance so we have to watch him all the time. He is awaiting an autism assessment, he is very verbal but couldn't really care about whether he gets lost.
I feel it's luck that he hasn't got lost yet so am wondering about putting a tracker on him when we go out (in a watch type strap or in a rucksack). Obviously we will still watch him like a hawk.

Does anyone know if AirTags are the best or if others work well. Do they locate them to a small area?

Air tags will locate very precisely (to within a couple of houses on a street) although if he is moving fast they may take a few seconds to catch up.

If he might dump a bag or coat, you can also sew one inside the fabric tongue of a trainer.

Thanks. He wouldn't necessarily be moving any faster than normal. He tends not to sprint off. Just wander to wherever he decides he wants to go at that moment without telling anyone. He can also hide (though we've always known where he is due to watching him)
