Ds1 is going in for surgery next month. I was wondering

will he be able to wear PJs or should I just take a long top for him?

and

When will he be able to return to school?

Hi sparkly - dd has had two lots of leg surgery over the last two years - not as extensive as your ds and not in casts just hip to ankle think wadding dressing thingy.

We didn't manage pj's - she wore very loose jersey shorts most of the time. I'd just have him in tops in the hospital it's probably easier.

Is ds in mainstream and does he have 1 to 1? Most schools don't like them in in plaster TBH but if he has a helper then they might do (it's all Health & Safety related usually).

I'll be thinking of you - have read your accomodation thread too and hope that gets sorted. They should see you as more 'in need' as you have a bf baby with you.

SGK - sorry, have been off MN for a week - I have to catch up!

Is your ds going to be in a full spica, or thigh-length casts? DS had a thigh-length cast, and we managed with cheap baggy trcksuit trousers with the leg cut off at thigh level, I think. It tends to be very hot in hospitals, though.

DS will be having a fixator frame on his leg sometime this summer, and we have been advised to cut his pants down the side seam and sew velcro on, to make side-fastening pants. Maybe this could be an option for you depending on the extent of the cast?

if he can't get to school, enquire about home and hospital tuition, the hospital school room ( if they have one) should know about this for your area.
Saved my A levels when I had to miss most of term after an RTA ( 3 breaks in pelvis). going up to school room (in my bed)kept me sane in hospital, then home tutor twice a week till i was able to do the journey to school regulary.
