ABA - What book is recommended for someone wanting to find out more about ABA?

ABA has been mentioned a few times on here, so I was wondering what book would be recommended as a starting point for someone like me who wants to find out more about ABA and how it can help autistic children.

Looked that book up on Amazon and it does not seem to be a book that will teach someone about ABA and how to apply ABA techniques. Would it be useful for that? Are there text books which are used on ABA courses, so that someone can train to be a therapist?

Educate Toward Recovery: Turning the Tables on Autism by Robert Schramm, MA, BCBA

Would that book be any good? It seems to be for VB ABA. What's the difference between that and ABA? - See I'm really starting from scratch

Nannynick - have a recommendation for you but will have to look it up as one of DS2's tutors has borrowed actual book. VB is ABA but with a focus on language. Will post more tomorrow but have to go to bed now - knackered!

So is a Msc in Behavioural Analysis what you have to do to be an ABA therapist?

THE book to learn about ABA, what it is, how to apply it is Behavioural Intervention for Young Children with Autism (sexy title!). It is edited by Catherine Maurice, Gina Green and someone else whose name I can't remember. I would say, if you buy nothing else, buy this one. You can get it from an organisation called Taskmaster based in Leicester. Ruan Kaufman does NOT have anything to do with ABA, he is Mr Sonrise, don't go there. Also join Peach as they run lots of courses, send out newsletter etc. HTH.

If you want to go down a VB route then the one I was thinking of is Teaching Language to Children with Autism or Other Developmental Disablities by Mark Sundberg and James Partington. There's a video that goes with it too,(but I think you have to buy it separately). It's expensive though and I don't know if you can it from the UK - I got mine from Different Roads to Learning www.difflearn.com.

The other one I used when setting up our programme and training tutors was 'Help Us Learn: A Self Paced Training Program for ABA' by Kathy Lear. I can't remember where I bought it but you should find it if you google.

Having read the info on the Peach website, I've decided to get the Catherine Maurice books. Will read them, then go from there. Peach are very very local to me... never knew they existed, so makes sense that I contact them with regard to training, if I am still keen once I've read the books.
