Do many places let you and/or the child in free if get DLA and carer's allowance?

Off to Rye/Sussex soon so particularly interested in that area.

And only have DLA letter as proof, hopefully that is enough?

We've found that most places don't advertise discounts freely - but most do offer it! When we went on holiday to Devon last year I looked up on-line the websites of the places we intended to visit and there was often information relating to disabled visitors - sometimes as a carer I got in for free and other times dd got in for free. I took my DLA letter but was never asked for it - nor asked to qualify how dd is disabled and at the time she looked like any other toddler in a pushchair. I guess there aren't many people out there who would actually fake having a disabled a child just to get a discount on days out! good luck, hope you have a good time.

I've offered the DLA letter before to be allowed to queue-jump with DS (ASD). Not so much to push to the front of the queue, and we have explained the reason for queueing; but people will insist on squashing up tight; so he goes into meltdown cos he hasn't got enough personal space.
Friends say that many places offer discounts especially if sight, hearing or physically disabled.
The wildfowl and wetlands place near Arundel gave us free entry for DS (probably as I had him attached by a wrist strap!) and the Weald and Downland museum were very accommodating - letting us go into houses when they were less busy, etc.

i have an icount card that proves dd has a disability. use it in places such as thorpe park, lego land etc and also allows you to use the exit so you don't queue!

Not heard of icount card - will google it as to how to get one. Be a good idea to have one we can all carry wouldnt it, rather than having to carry the letter about - bit like a bus pass. Think i will email the DLA dept to suggest it

I find it very variable. Bit further north than you are looking, but for example BIG up to Birdworld who give a discount to the child AND let the carer in free. And a boo, hiss to Fishers' Farm Park (award winning, apparently ) who give a tiny notional discount for the child and ditto the carer but it's close enough to full price to make no difference, so you are paying full price for a child who can't use most of the attractions and ditto for a carer who is only there because they need 1:1. It really is case-by-case. I wrote a standard email and just sent it to the contact addy of every local attraction I was interested in - most reply eventually.

I have a covers-all-bases letter from DD1's paed instead of a DLA letter - specifies her exact problems. I've laminated it . But we're rarely asked for it.

Blossomhill that Icount is a fab idea, what a shame only certain councils are in the scheme - only seems to be London area. Have emailed the idea to my local council for their thoughts.

hecate, that cinema card looks good cos i always have to go with someone else so i can go out with DS when he kicks off! would save us some money!
