Private Health Insurance Autism

Hi,

Does anyone know of any health insurance providers who will cover cost of autism assessment in a child?

I have found a few private services nearby who state they accept a number of different insurance companies but when I look at the actual companies they seem to have a clause stating neurodevelopmental assessment is not covered.

I used to work in private health insurance and “ anything you’re born with” is not covered. So no cover for anything genetic, including autism.

However, some insurance companies would allow for an assessment to exclude the genetic diagnosis.

On this basis, they might offer one consultation to tell you if the cause is “likely autism”. If answer is yes, no further cover is available.
If cause of symptoms isn’t likely autism or genetic, further cover may be offered.
But they wouldn’t do a specific full- on assessment for autism itself.
