What can I ask for at a TAF 'team around the family' meeting

Child is autistic - 9 years old - school attendance at about 65 per cent - she enjoys it while in but then frequently completely refuses to go saying its overwhelming.

Violent meltdowns - is on a flexi timetable which has definitely helped with regulation mood and emotions - a lot less violent outbursts I think.

Classic masking 'fine in school' presentation

I would like a tutor to help her stop falling behind - as being behind in class is increasing anxiety

Is this something TAF can help with - I'm bored/ sick of endless meetings and conversations that provide no practical help.

You can request medical needs tuition. Ultimate responsibility for this provision lies with the LA. However, if you are flexi-schooling the LA may well say you are making suitable alternative arrangements for the flexi-schooling time and they are only responsible for the time DD attends (or should attend if she can’t) school.

If you are wanting greater support, rather than flexi schooling, you would be better having the absences when DD can’t attend because of her MH/SEN coded as I.

Has an EHCNA been requested?

thanks v much that's really useful - we had to apply for the flexi timetable as a specific response to her mental health/ struggle at school and that is the grounds on why it was given - ie. a reasonable adjustment - so I think that is already noted.

Just applying now for the EHCP . they are saying classic comment she is 'fine in school' so they think she will be refused. She refuses to accept help in school other than sometimes going out for group work with friends - the school are generally v kind and supportive.

You didn’t have to go down the flexi-schooling route. If DD couldn’t attend because of her MH she could have been marked as I. The absences being marked as illness means DD is still the school/LA’s responsibility. Whereas, by flexi schooling you are home educating during the time outside of school and the onus to provide that education is on you.

Appeal if an EHCP is refused.
