Can private GP refer for assessment via right to choose?

We are wanting to have our daughter referred for an ASD assessment to a private clinic using right to choose. The next GP appointment at our surgery is weeks away. I have GP cover via a life insurance policy but I’ve never used it. Does anybody know if they are able to make the referral please?
thank you.

Sorry to jump on an old thread but I wondered if you managed to be referred by a private GP into Right to Choose? We are in exactly the same situation and desperate to sort out an autism assessment but the wait to see our GP is weeks and weeks. Thank you so much.

Hi @HappyLilacPoet
unfortunately the private GP was unable to make the referral (but did offer to refer for a private assessment, haha). We had to wait the few weeks for the NHS GP appointment and they made the referral. It was all quite quick from then though; referral end of Feb, assessment end of May.

Thank you v much for getting back to. I’m sorry that you weren’t able to get the referral through the private GP but glad it worked out for you in the end. I think we’ll have to go the same route.

thanks again.

No problem, wishing you luck, it’s a tense time with all the waiting.
have you chosen a RTC provider?

Yes it’s very stressful! We’re considering a clinic in Norwich but let me know if you’d recommend the place you went.

Tbh I don’t know how you’re even meant to find out where the providers are, do you know if there’s a list somewhere?!

We used Clinical Partners but their assessment is online which might not suit everyone.
I’d look into anyone doing private assessments locally and look at their website to see whether they offer right to choose. I also asked at school to see which providers they were aware of and then I looked at their websites to see who had the shortest waiting time.

Thank you, that’s really helpful!
