Is an EHCP just for school readiness?

DD is 3.5 and nursery said they would apply for an EHCP. However, we intend to delay her reception start as she is also summerborn.
Nursery have said that she may not have the support if she stays there rather than attends school as an EHCP is about school readiness at that age.
Is this true?

No, an EHCP isn’t just for support at school. EHCPs can provide support in nurseries.

Aside from that, you shouldn’t delay requesting an EHCNA. Many have to appeal, sometimes more than once, and the wait is long.
