I did'nt even realise they existed or shamefully realise why ds wrapped himself in a comfort blanket so much until I spoke to his occupational therapist last week.
Does anyone use these blankets, if so would you rate them, ds only uses a fleece blanket so I am contemplating buying him a weighted one.

Hi totaleclipse, No I haven't used weighted blankets (but was aware of them) on a similair theme have you seen the tight body warmer thingies that fasten tightly around the torso so the child feels hugged and secure? I have seen these used with really good results.

Hi yes have seen those, but dont think ds would wear them, I might try them if I can find a second hand one, as I dont want to spent too much incase he refuses to wear it.

my ds2 often gets into his old coat ( far too small) and takes his arms out of the slevs, then sucks his thumb!! he looks ridiculous but it stops him from screaming!!

in Tesco they have cool stripy fleece blankets for £2, i bought them two each yesterday and have turned one into a poncho ( for when we are camping) and the other one's for rolling up in on the sofa!!

My dd2 who has autism attends a SEN school which specialises in ASD and a lot of the younger children were wearing the weighted little vests over their sweatshirts while having assembly. They reminded me of the sports type of 'bibs' IYKWIM for footy training etc. Had a very calming affect on a lot of the children.
