How to get my son to drink from a straw

So my son is 6 and has been using the same sippy cup from he was a baby, it's one of the Tommee Tippee ones. He has no problem with sucking from it but if I try to get him to drink from a straw or a fruit shoot type bottle , he has no idea what to do, he ends up blowing and just creating bubbles in the liquid.
I have demonstrated what to do myself , I have also put liquid in the straw, held the other end and tried to get him to suck from it but literally nothing is working.
If I thought he couldn't suck then I would get it, and try and get help for that but his sucking motion is fine, so this is making it more frustrating.
I want him to be able to use other cups/bottles and straws now that he's getting older.
Has anyone had this issue and been able to find a way to get your child to understand that they need to suck?

Not sure about the straw but have you tried putting a sports type bottle in his mouth and tipping it slightly so that some fluid goes into his mouth but he doesn't have to suck?
