Explaining autism to an autistic eight year old - books?

Does anyone know any good books to read with an autistic child to help them understand/come to terms with it? My DN is 8 years old, but his mum says his understanding is about a 5 year old level. I've tried talking to him about everyone being different, and that I'm autistic, but he just says he isn't.

My 6 year old loves "Just Ask", lots of different disabilities presented in an accessable, non judgemental way. It's been really good for springboarding conversations from. She even said "that sounds like me!!" to the ADHD one 😂 (I was like... No shit!!)

My son enjoyed ‘Different like me’. It is about well-known people who have/allegedly had ASD.

Does DN like fiction? There are quite a few children’s books with autistic main characters that my DS also enjoyed. He liked ‘The London Eye Mystery’ by Siobhan Dowd. I didn’t think the depiction of Ted Spark, the main character was that great, but my DS identified with him (pre-diagnosis). If DN has reduced understanding it may be a little old for him and the moment (my DS was about 8 when we read it). I love ‘The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime’, but that is older still. These books would be best read to/with the child and then you can discuss them. There are others too, but at the moment I can’t remember them…….

Does he like animals? If so, "All cats are autistic" is an awesome book.

My autistic 8 year old liked All cats are autistic, though I thought it was a bit superficial and I'm actually looking for something more in depth.
