How do you know what your child does at school during each day when they can't tell you?

Lo asd diagnosis and very limited speech. Unable to tell us what they are doing at school in the day. How many point they got for a behaviour system, what they ate, what they even did. Literally can't tell us anything. I don't always do school runs and even when I do pick up and drop offs are really busy with lots of parents wanting to speak to teachers and ta's. Does anyone have experience in which a mainstream school deals with this for non verbal children? Thanks

Home-school communication book?

I just hope for the best. He’s happy to get picked up by the bus and he’s happy when he comes home. They get in touch if there’s a problem and answer queries from me. But day to day, other than guessing by what food is on his clothes, I don’t know what he does.

Yes, ask for a home-school communication book and get it out into the EHCP.

Thank you all

I'm doing the school run tomorrow so I'm going to ask about a home communication book. I tend to keep asking other parents but it's a challenge! Thanks

Definitely ask for more feedback. My son was very able verbally and so told me in reception ‘I don’t like chatting’ when I asked about school so didn’t get anything either 😂 I’m not laughing at your situation but he is autistic and all the vocabulary in the world didn’t prove too helpful. It must be very hard knowing he can’t tell you though and I hope they are receptive.
