I saw an old thread on this from 2018. I have a DS who has just turned 10 and myself and my DH have talked for years about moving from North London where we live.
We have been so underwhelmed by the education system both mainstream and special and resorted in the end to fight for a personal budget where we manage his education. We both work and also have a DD who is 8.
We have just returned from a holiday in Cyprus, (we are both greek cypriot but born and have lived in London our whole lives).
We understand that we will have some of the same challenges out there as have very little support around us (rely on Direct payments for respite) but are looking for a better life for our family. I have heard school teachers in Cyprus do not have the specialist training required but have experienced the same here. My DS loves the outdoors and the sea and we loved the fact he could access the water sports out there without being freezing cold. He also has complex needs and needs constant supervision as is unaware of danger etc.
So many things to consider. It's not straight forward. Would appreciate any comments or advice on those who have taken the leap.
