What is a social communication assessment?

Hello,

I'm sorry if I'm being really dim asking this question but this is all new to me but I've received a letter saying my DC has been accepted for a social communication assessment and I have no idea what that means and there's no number on the letter to ask so was wondering if someone could help me.

Okay thank you, I just want too sure what it meant or what the process is as we were only made aware of a genetic disorder in march

If there is a genetic disorder that can explain the difficulties, DC may not be diagnosed with ASD, but a social communication assessment may be undertaken to assess difficulties and look at support.

Autism is part of the genetic disorder but not always so I'm just seeing what happens either way. Thank you so much for your help.
