DLA renewal taking ages

I was wondering if anyone has been waiting a long time to hear back about a renewal?
I send my forms back middle of dec and I got a letter about a two months ago saying they had received my forms.
I've not heard anything since.
DLA is due to stop on the 21st march and
I have now received a letter saying my carers allowance will be stopped on the 21st march as well.

@Abwill it depends when your payment date is, I wasn’t supposed to receive my payment until next Tuesday but they paid it me a week early so I had a payment of 3 weeks due to the old award ending on Tuesday 14th so my next payment will be 4 weeks on so 11th April due to new award

My son's DLA ends on 28th March. I get Carers weekly. I was dreading the awards ending.

I sent my forms beginning of January (I usually send renewals in December but it was hectic this year). I haven't heard anything yet but got my Carers yesterday which I hoped was a good sign. However this morning I've been paid 3 weeks of DLA a week early. I don't know if this means my renewal went through or if the claim has now ended.

I'm dreading the next month or so if there's a delay between renewal.

@JC3010 it may mean that the old award has ended and they have paid the remaining amount to you but then the new award has started so possibly your payment will be 4 weeks from today instead, I would definitely phone them this morning to find out what’s going on, you may have got the carers payment yesterday as technically your award didn’t end until today.

Hi mine ended yesterday haven’t heard phoned this morning and said they’d be making the decision today! Had a one off payment of two weeks money, they said this was the rest of my old claim! I sent mine back in November it’s taking so long

My sons DLA renewal ended on Friday 31st March . I had sent the renewal paperwork in on 26th Jan.

I called the DLA on the 31st to find out what the decision was as my carers allowance was due to be cancelled the following Tuesday but no decision had been made yet

They told me that they do work over the weekends - it’s just the helpline that is closed

I called today and his renewal was awarded on the Saturday- day after it ended at the same rate of hrc and lrm

Called carers allowance and they answered the phone straight away, looked up his award and there won’t be a break in that payment

DLA lady said they haven’t lost staff but have been inundated with new claims over that past 12 months

Good luck to you all - it’s nerve wracking having to wait until the last minute and was grateful for this thread to understand that lots of others are experiencing the same

Hi wondering if somone can help? My son's previous claim was ending 6th of May, by this date I hadn't heard anything back from the renewal. On Tuesday the 9th I received a 3 week payment. Then Friday the 12 I had a letter saying claim been successful awarded from the 7th of May and payment would be Wednesday after it was awarded. I've tried to call for clarification but can't get through. Could somone work out the dates of the next payment please? Thanks in advance.

Snickerdoodles19 · 15/05/2023 17:43

@Charliemum12 it will be 4 weeks from the 9th may.

I can see people have been awarded an increase but what happens if it goes from HRC to MRC . Will the payments change from when the dla ends or from when they received the renewal form? Anyone had a reduction and when did it start from? Unsure as to when to send the renewal forms back in case this happens.

FloatingBean · 03/11/2024 11:24

The award isn’t reduced from when the renewal forms are received. That would result in an overpayment. It is from when the new award starts.

You should send the renewal back as soon as you can because renewals are taking a long time and although renewals for awards due to run out imminently can be prioritised, waiting until the last minute risks the award ending without a renewal decision being made.

If an award goes from MCR to HCR the payments are changed from the date they receive the renewal form wouldn't the same rule apply if it was the other way around?

Hi @Loki197 mine was done the day it ended 😩 but backdated the difference from when I sent it it we went from MRC to HRC x

So let's say if it goes down from HRC to MCR would that mean this would result in an overpayment from when you sent it. I see people getting backdatements if the component goes up but what happens when it goes down?

FloatingBean · 03/11/2024 16:28

No. A renewal will not routinely result in an overpayment even if the award decreases.

The exception would be if you failed to inform DWP of a change of circumstances when you should have.
