Bloody world book day dressing up

I know others here will have experienced the same.
I hate any event where there’s dressing up for my daughter.

the change from the normal uniform, plus sensory needs means it’s hell for her.

She’s managed to go in with her school tights and shoes on and a red dress, and she just went as herself.

Her clothes are not weather appropriate. She can’t wear a jumper. She has her coat off at school.

I see all the other children excited and happy and it just makes her feel like she stands out, and it breaks my heart a little more. She’s happy with her choice though.

My ASC boy went in his school uniform too. We changed his clothes when it was numbers day and it didn’t work for him.

He will pretty much only wear a white vest most of the time so it was school uniform on John McLane which didn’t seem appropriate for a 5 year old!

I know other parents have done similar. Don’t sweat it. Got to do what is right by your girl.

My dd school said they could wear pj's so I ran round shops finding loads for her to choose from she chose a pair and then on the day couldn't cope so stayed home. Heartbreaking. She dressed as gangsta granny a few years ago and looked great now she can't face dressing up as she's much more self conscious.

Dd's first WBD was past year. The school, in their wisdom, decided to do monsters, aliens and cow boys/ girls. Added to sensory issues, dd doesn't do anything that could be perceived as too 'boyish'. So she flat refused any of those things. I ended up buying her a cute and comfortable little dress with planets on, so a general space theme instead of aliens. She loved that dress. I totally get where you're coming from on this, absolute nightmare.
