silly i know but I have my worrying head on

I know dd is only 12. but i have got my self all worried.
wtf will happen when she leaves school.
I heard from a old freind and she is having to consider putting her 20yr dd into residential care.
I so don't ever want to hand dd over to someone else full time.
but when she is older we will be older and I can't imaging we will be able to cope full time.
please some one tell me that there will be help out there.

I know just how you feel,my dd2 is 14 and is a 24 hr job,she will leave school at 19 and we dont even have overnight respite yet.I often worry how we will cope when she gets older,getting any help is like banging your head against a brick wall.

it is scarey my bf has gone from full support to NOTHING. no respite NOTHING. with a woman who is a 2yr old(her words not mine)

Do you have any respite at all,we get a saturday playscheme once a month for 5 hours and as much as i love her ,i do look forward to it.

yes dd has respite at a place at her school(she is there tonight) we are very lucky in that way.

how the hell do you cope?

to be honest i dont know,we just have too,we all just take each day as it comes dont we?Dh is a big help,she just loves him to bits and when shes going off on one hes the only one who can calm her down.

There does need to be more support given once adulthood is reached. Disabilities don't just vanish when the person turns 18.

I worry about this and my son is ony 2.4 at the moment. Ive worked in adult though so know exactly what is and isnt out there.

Write to your MP and ask him to suppport the Independant Living Bill so adult disabled poeple have a right to living where they want with full support covered by Direct Payments.
Might have arrived by the time your dd and my dd reach 18!
I can't lift and care for dd now at 4 cos I have MS. Within 5 years I'll be permamntly in a wheelchair too.
DD also can't talk so who is going to takethe time to understandher?

Terrifies me. I hope I can always look after dd1 (who has a limited life expenctancy so it may be possible).

I know that at some point I want to try and set up some sort of organisation/charity to help families of kids with special needs. More and more recently I've been realising that I would probably be best off trying to do something for adults rather than children.
