Hi all,

I am really mentally struggling. My son isn't officially diagnosed but it is a matter of time. I feel like I am grieving yet I know he's the amazing person he was always meant to
be. He regressed so as an infant there were no signs until he was around 2
If your child was non verbal at 4, did they ever speak? I guess I just feel sad, i dont want my precious boy to struggle

Am sure someone will come along with experience of this, but in the meantime, just to say that that sounds really tough and to send you best wishes. 💐

Is he at school yet OP? Is he getting SALT support?

My ds is autistic and verbal but we still have struggles. It comes with the territory, unfortunately but it doesn’t also mean that life won’t be lovely in lots of ways. It’s ok to grieve the life you thought you would all have Flowers

There are posters on these boards with NV children and also those whose children spoke later, but the weekends can be pretty quiet.

Hi, my boy is ASD and non verbal at 5yo. Honestly, I think it’s often harder on the parents than the kids. My boy doesn’t know what he’s missing really. He doesn’t know he’s missing family trips to cinema or going on an aeroplane or anything else. It’s me and his Dad that know we’re not able to do things we wanted to do. DS would be quite happy in the house and garden and his weekly trip to the swimming pool.

You’ve also got to deal with the headache of all the paperwork and access to services which is a headache.

Also, you still get all the feelings of pride and joy being mum of a SEND kid, but they come at different times and in different ways. Achievement might be joining in with a song rather than 10/10 on a spelling test. But you’ll feel the same glow inside.
