Nursery that is.

just went to pick up dd and the SENCO asked us to go in a room a look at a report she has written for the developmental paed.

so she went through it and got to the bottom and it said dd is able to sit on the potty for 2.5 hours, so i said thats gone up half an hour, the notes from the meeting the other day said 2 hours.

she started spluttering and said well ill check that, then she had the nerve to hand me some leaflets on potty training and tell me that we can use stickers and rewards to get dd to potty train so i looked at her and said do you not think we,ve done all that, we are not silly.

i lost my rag i know, but she,s so patronising and telling one professional one thing and the paed another.

its really wearing me down.

why are they making her sit on a potty for 2 hours?

or do they mean over the period of the day.

they mean dry for 2.5 hours, sorry didnt explain that properly, just got my notes out that were sent from the meeting they held without us there and it says dry for UP TO 2 hours.

oh i see. otherwise i would have got rather concerned.

do they not realise that they shouldn't over exagerate to make themselves sound better as all that happens is they wil lose out on valuable resources and support.

as for them passing you potty training tips

have just read the report fully.
it was dated 21 jan 2008.
we asked them to stop potty training in november 2007 and provided them with a letter from her consultant confirming her diagnosis of hemiparesis and associated incontinence problems.

it says "DD is beginning to agree to sit on the potty after she has her nappy changed"

well, at least i now know why she kept refusing to go to nursery for these past 3 months, because she didnt want to go on the potty.

Jenk that sounds like abuse and discrimination, not sure what you can do about it... but I don't blame you for being very angry with the nursery and senco!

ive just phoned IPSEA.

she said it is disability discrimination in that they have "failed to make reasonable adjustments" as regards her toileting, they are treating her as if she doesnt have a disability.

i mean are they thick?
the head of SEN at the LEA is investigating what has happenend and they go and show me a report saying that they were still putting her on the potty 2 months after we told them not to?

and why give 2 professionals 2 different accounts of what our daughter can do?

i emailed the exec director today.
told him that we have it in writing that dd was still being put on the potty against her will in jan 2008, 2 months after we asked them to cease doing it.
told him that the notes say "she is beginning to agree to doing it" and that in our opinion this is discrimination as they are not treating her favourably, also asked him to investigate why they are giving more than one professional different accounts of what our daughter can/cannot do.

he replied back within 10 mins of my email and has told me that he has asked the head of SEN to investigate.

glad it sounds to be taken so seriously by the exec director.

i havent written to her paed yet to let him know what has gone on.

i dont really know what to say to him. all i can think of saying is
a health visitor and the nursry have decided to overide your letter of advice and toilet train our daughter against her will.

then theres the 2nd paed who is asessing her for ASD, the nursery wrote to her and told her that dd is dry for 2.5 hours, but they told the hv that she is dry for up to 2 hours, do which do we believe?

i do hope the paed goes spare with nursery for going against his advice. i think this 2/2.5 hour dry thing is a complete red herring anyway - as surely it's the control she has over it that's the important thing, not training her to wee every x hours????

well done Jenk for getting someone to investigate this, really hope that your dd starts being treated with a bit more respect at nursery.
