Won’t wear a jumper or coat

My 4yo is non verbal autistic. In the last couple of weeks he’s decided he won’t wear a jumper. Put his school uniform jumper on him and he was so distressed I had to take it off.

Anything with a zip like a hoodie or his coat is being immediately removed.

It’s not long sleeves as a problem because he’s fine in pyjamas or a long sleeved t-shirt.

To make it more difficult he wants to play outside all the time!

Anyone have this problem? How did you solve it?

A few things I would try - will he wear a thermal vest under his T-shirt for warmth in the meantime?

Can you source a jumper/coat with a favourite character on? Ideally I’d get a choice of two so you can ask him this one or this one? To give an element of control.

Have you tried a bodywarmer? I know you say sleeves aren’t the problem but the bulk of sleeves is often an issue.

Does he seem unhappy, or is he getting ill a lot? If neither I'd let it be.

My DS wore vest and long sleved T-shirts until about 4, and didn't freeze. I shopped around for the thickest material I could find, that wasn't so thick he viewed it as a jumper. We also drove most places and kept a blanket in the car, though that was also because he's unreliable walking.

If he'll where a fleece pajama top or better an oodie or dressing gown, then that will be fine for the garden, or even out if it's the only way to keep him warm enough.

My boy won’t wear a jumper or a coat. Defo not school jumpers either - think it’s a sensory thing. Even if it’s minus 5 degrees no jumper even even in snow at school / freezing with ice everywhere.

Although he will wear a fluffy soft hoodie on a w/e.

but my boy says he’s too hot and he likes to feel the cold ….. he has a jumper in his bag but won’t wear it 🤪

but I do put him a soft vest on in the winter under his school shirt 👍 but all winter he has no jumper or coat on 😫
