Just wondering whether it's worth trying to apply now for dla for my son or whether to wait till he's older. I do have a letter from his paeditrician and a salt referral. He has no formal autism diagnosis yet but it's so obvious the paeditrician said he'll be putting through for an assessment now instead of when he's older. He needs so much more supervision etc than other children his age you literally can't be three foot away from him ever, climbs everything, non verbal and doesn't communicate his needs in any way at all for example won't go to the kitchen if he's hungry, put my hand on things etc nothing. Can't use a spoon, plate etc doesn't wave look at where your pointing. Can only ever me with me or dad because he hates other people and noone else can tell what he needs. Doesn't understand basic instructions like no or down etc. Would be massively helpful for getting him some hours in nursery and taking him to the soft play that's a good distance away so he can climb safely etc

May I ask how old your little one is, as you said under 2? I applied when my child got probable asd diagnosis and was just before he turned 2. If your child is closer to 1, I don’t know if they would award it but I’m not too sure. Letter from PED should be enough though.

My little one sounds exactly like yours and my little boy was awarded DLA pre diagnosis at around 18 months x

Out of interest how much do you get?

@349KMELLOR03 thankyou I'm actually currently just applying now as I held on till I had a bit more evidence. It's so difficult to fill in the form at this age especially the questions like "do they need help with the bath" well yes they're under 2 but there's all these extra things we have to do too with the bath which take more time, I've written so much extra already and I'm not even halfway through the form x

Just to update you all he was granted his DLA just before his second birthday, he's been given middle rate care until he's five which I'm over the moon with x
