I need your advice guys, our Motability Ford Focux Zetec has had its three years and we are due to change it very soon. We have three kiddies which means three car seats squashed in the back. We would like, if possible, to go for some sort of People Carrier so we can take Grandma on trips with us etc. If we can't afford the motability downpayment, we will go for a C-Max and forget Grandma .

What do you guys have and more importantly, can you give us an idea of what downpayment you paid, as we deffinitely can't go four figures.

We have the Ford S-Max and it's fab fab fab.

But it's well and truly a 4 figure down payment - sorry, I'm no help am I?

Sidge · 17/01/2008 14:42

Just looking on the Motability website and there are quite a few MPVs that are less than a grand down payment.

You can get a VW Touran - we test drove that one and it's not bad at all.

Or a Renault Grand Scenic - but we found that a bit small for us (and we needed 3 car seats and room for the double buggy and the Major).

We have the VW touran with 7 seats, so you could get everyone in, not much boot space if you are using all the seats though. Had a citroen picasso before, but touran is much better

Thanks guys for your help. I looked at the Motability website, but the 'cheaper' people carriers are just not very nice looking (and there's me thinking I would not ever be bothered with what a car looked like!).

Sidge - I am insanely jealous of you having an S-Max. They are fablicious arn't they. I would luuurrrvvveee to be able to aford one of those, but at over £3,000 a pop for a downpayment, I think it will only happen in my dreams.

Thanks again.

we have a citroen c4 grand picasso and it is fabulous, won a whole host of awards last year and is great to drive and it has 7 separate seats, 4 of which have isofix points, prices start at £495 right up to £2150

rosieyorkshirelass · 17/01/2008 21:18

We have a citroen synergie 1.9 turbo diesel with 7 seats- exactly same build as the fiat ulysse, peugeot 806. It is only the badge that is different. The newer model - the citroen C8 is the later model- an excellent, economical, reliable car. Very flexible, with seats that can swivel, be taken out, etc, etc. Not too big, either- but still good amount of space.

onlyjoking9329 · 17/01/2008 22:21

ok we had the citroen c4 grand picasso, someone smashed into us on friday me and all 3 kids managed to walk away with minor injurys, despite being shunted throu a bus shelter a wall and a hedge. it is very safe car lots of airbags. it is a write off but will be replaced with another one the same.

Sidge · 17/01/2008 23:14

Magsi - it is lovely, the fabbest of fablicious cars! It's really changed our lives as we can actually all go out as a family now, rather than having to leave DH behind or get him to follow in someone else's car!

We could only afford the down payment thanks to FIL who gave us the money (DH's inheritance now!) so no idea what we'll do in 2 years when it's time to get the next car. Might have to sell one of the children...

Onlyjoking - thank god you were in a safe car, that sounds frightening. Hope you are all ok now.

Ha Ha Fio, Who am I kidding I can keep up with the yummy mummies and their huge BMW's, i'm a 16st Primmark queen FGS!!. Perhaps I am desperately trying to hold onto my youth and not have to admit that it has come down to driving a MPV! Anyway, thanks again for your replies, I think we will go and have a nose at some.

Onlyjoking, what a terrible ordeal for you and your kiddies, I am so glad you made it out o.k. UP THE CITROEN C4 GRAND PICASSO!!! I say!!!!

We are getting a Mazda 5 on my birthday next month!!! Am SOOOO excited!

Sliding doors.. ease of access for (our)DS. Up to seven seats, but the bit in the middle of proper back seat can be used a separator for warring factions.. big boot for wheelchair (when not using extra back two seats).. nice looking, comfortable. Reliable engine.

Even Jeremy-freakish-Clarkson likes them!

Ours is going to be red!

[so excited]

What ever you do, don't get a FIAT! (Fix It Again Tomorrow)

(By the way, the birthday bit is not relevent, it's not my car and we're not buying it obviously.. it's DS's motorbility car)

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 18/01/2008 21:23

(Sadly the Mazda five does currently have a deposit of £995 for the 2l sport (petrol) or £1900 (diesel)) We're getting a diesel because we got a grant for an MPV because of DS's specific needs)

onlyjoking9329 · 18/01/2008 21:25
