Ds is 11, he is autistic.

claimed DLA after his diagnosis aged 5 so 6 years ago

other parents have talked about renewing his claim but we've never had to.

looked at his claim letter and it states he's been awarded until 2027 I believe. Does that mean a renewal isn't needed at all until he's older and perhaps changes over to pip?

why would this be?

Yes, it means DLA will continue until the date in 2027. If that date is his 16th birthday he will be invited to apply for PIP. If that date is before his 16th birthday a few months before the date you will be sent a renewal letter.

Some are awarded DLA until 16. It depends on their needs, the evidence you send and what DM you get.

My DS was awarded DLA at age 3, which lasts until he’s 16. I’m not really sure why as most people I know have had to reapply every few years, but I guess his needs are unlikely to change in that time.

Yes, DD1 was awarded at 3, 5 (upgrade to mobility), and 8 (until 16). She's just been awarded PIP for 6 years.
