Looking for experiences/advice - 4 yo DS is suspected ASD and wears glasses. Trouble is we have been up to the hospital 3 times now and each time he has not been cooperative with the eye test, so the glasses prescription is basically educated guesswork. It's not a small prescription either.
He can do the picture/letter charts, it is the bit where they dilate his pupils and shine a light in his eye. He just won't look in the right direction for long enough and keeps trying to grab at the lenses etc. They really do need to look at the back of his eye now as the glasses have helped but clearly aren't solving all his vision issues.
His verbal understanding has some on a long way and we've done lots of talking everything through at home, practicing etc and trying to prepare him but it doesn't seem to help. I've read loads of threads on MN saying the hospital will know what to do, they are used to uncooperative small children etc etc. But the staff at our hospital just seem to be a bit crap with it, I have explained about his SEN etc but they just don't seem to have any tricks up their sleeve and keep just giving up when he doesn't play ball. Then its months to get another appt.
Help!
