Specialist school for a-levels - autistic but highly academic?

Does anyone have any recommendations for special schools that offer a-levels? Could be anywhere in the UK, particularly if they offer boarding. DC has been out of education since last July, and wants to attend, but needs an autism specific environment, and other autistic kids!
In the middle of the EHCP process, and need to be well armed with suggestions.

Gretton, near Cambridge.

Thanks Clover, that's one of the only 3 that I have managed to find so far, and it's DC's favourite (by looking at the website). Do you have experience of it? Is the website a good reflection of the school?

Ds is autistic and academic but struggles with some quite significant MH difficulties. He's just started at a specialist FE college. He was in mainstream sixth form but dropped out six months ago.

If I'm honest, his transition to specialist is not quite going to plan at the moment, so I won't name it on here. But I'm quite happy to PM you the name of the college and the other one we considered. I also know about Farleigh College in Somerset. Ds did not want residential, so we only looked at the couple that were close to us.

Cavendish trust have a couple that offer A levels, of which Gretton is one - parents either love it or hate it. Holmewood, Barnet is also worth a look.

Several of Priory’s schools offer A levels. Farleigh is one, there’s also Unsted Park in Surrey, Rossendale in Lancashire and North Hill House in Somerset are some of the others.

Alderwasley Hall, Nottinghamshire.

There’s also Aurora group who offers some.

Cambian have a few that do, but they have a very mixed reputation. Some hate it and there are some significant safeguarding issues, but some parents like their schools/colleges.

West Kirby school in the Wirral.

Some NAS schools offer A levels. I know Church Lawton in Cheshire, Vanguard in Lambeth and Helen Allison in Kent definitely do.

There’s a new school opening in September called Chestnut Place in Worcestershire. The proprietor is Wider Ambition who opened another well regarded school, Lokrum Fields, in Worcestershire.

Magdalen Court School in Devon.

West Heath in Kent. A SEMH school but some of their pupils have ASD.

@Bubbleswithsqueak. Hope you got the PM. Not sure if the information is useful, but it's interesting to know what is around.

Dory's list is great, looks like there could be a few options for your DC.

I don’t know why I put Alderwasley Hall is in Nottinghamshire as it is in Derbyshire!

If you are local to it Cavendish’s Wilds Lodge in Rutland may be worth a look. I have heard brilliant things about it. It is a SEMH school, but has high number of ASD pupils and is a therapeutic school and not quite the same as some other SEMH schools, but it only offers day places to girls.

Our son went to Farleigh College in Somerset. It was the best thing that ever happened to him. They offer A levels on site or support to attend local MS colleges that offer A levels. It used to be part of the Priory Group but is now under Aspris Children's Services.

Alderwasley Hall seems to have a good reputation so is worth considering.

Imitatingdory · 15/03/2022 07:41

Ahh, Ellie I had forgotten Priory schools now under a new name.

CatBat76 · 08/04/2022 19:17

Have you looked at Breckenborough in Yorkshire? Have heard incredible things

Imitatingdory · 08/04/2022 21:15

Catbat OP’s DC is a DD, so Breckenbrough isn’t an option. I promise I’m not a stalker Bubbles we have spoken previously under another name.
