As previous post states ds 10 teacher has asked me to contact gp to start assessment for adhd. He is constantly in trouble with others. Have issues with social interaction and temper. Today gp had questioned why adhd if he is able to focus on studying which I couldn’t answer and it make me question too. I will ask the teacher next week once back from half term but until then. Can children who do well in school still have adhd?

Yes.

Yes. Point your GP to the hyperfocus symptoms. The idea that people with ADHD can’t pay attention at all is outdated. GPs often don’t have up to date knowledge on this stuff.

Very much yes! Though IME you have to fight harder to get the ones who are doing well the support they need and deserve (teacher!).

I was only diagnosed in my 30s after being a high flyer through school, multiple degrees and awards.

Thank you. Its actually the school who is pushing this as his current teacher seems to have taken him under her wings and said that while they can probably manage this in primary school. He will struggle in secondary as he is not a txt book adhd. Which I hugely appreciate
