DS is 18 months old and has 22q. He has hypotonia and is operating at around 9 months old for gross motor skills, but is slowly getting there. His speech is also really good - the paediatrician said around 20 months or so, and he is very sociable.
We’ve been to a few developmental assessments now and I don’t know how seriously to take them when they examine his ability to play with things. Most of the time he just won’t play ball - he has the attention span of a gnat and prefers to start stacking bricks but then throw them on the floor so that mummy has to pick them up.
I’ve noticed he does much more at home. I think it’s fair enough not to be a performing monkey at a doctor’s visit! But he is generally graded 3 or so months behind in cognitive and fine motor based on these assessments.
I don’t know whether I should worry or just not think too much - are these tests accurate? Can you tell if a child has moderate learning disabilities at this age anyway?
