Hi all,

Dd used to find it hard to go into her old school. Now in SEN provision, has become very attached to a TA and loves it there, she won’t come home. She struggles and sits
Outside for an hour or so, can get aggressive in the car. Today it’s almost
Dark now and she’s there, on the ground not budging, with her Dad.
TAs do help but now just stuck!

What would you do?

Could her favourite TA walk her to your car to ease the transition? Maybe allowing her to finish 15 mins before everyone else so the transition is calmer? 🤔
I feel your pain. My son really struggles with transitioning although it has got a bit better now he is 10.

Can you plan activities at home that she loves so that she has something to look forward to at the end of the day? Could be as simple as making her favourite dinner or putting on a favourite film or show. I'd also have a think, is there anything she does when she gets home that she might not want to do? Could be homework, eating dinner, tidying her room, anything really.

School need to work on her accepting a range of staff in school. It might be better for her to work with someone else in the afternoons so she has less problems leaving.
