DD was always well behind her targets but we figured children develop at different rates and didn't worry too much. BUT, on starting pre-school, they identified some issues and referred her to SALT. In infant school they put her on an IEP (currently waiting on an EHCP application) but observed a severe instance of choking one lunchtime (she often used to choke on food at home) and as a consequence, re-referred her to SALT who referred her to a paediatric consultant.
PC diagnosed severe Microcephaly (less than 0.4 percentile) which came as a shock really.
Anyway, DD exhibits stuff like :-
Sings the same verse of a song (at full volume) over and over again for 20~30 minutes.
Claps her hands for apparently no reason every 5~10 minutes when at home (often when singing but also when watching TV etc)
Terrified of loud noises - Fireworks, air brakes on buses/lorries, loud music etc
Won't cross footbridges as she thinks they will collapse and she will fall.
Terrified of Santa!
I just don't know if ASD is something we should look at or if it's all related to the Microcephaly and GDD. FWIW, I did the M-CHAT thing and it said we should look to getting her screened for it but in all honesty, I'm not really sure how we would go about that?
