Anyone know anything about house adaptations and funding?

We have just had a standing frame delivered for dd, and it is massive - really, I have nowhere to put it.

I am suddenly totally fed up that I have NO SPACE in my house whatsoever. I think a while back someone on here (Lou33?) was talking about getting a grant for a loft conversion or similar to make into a therapy room, or something like that.

Any ideas how I'd go about finding out and how difficult it is to get a grant?

yes i know about the disabled facility grant, we got one but it got silly with building regs so we ended up doing it ourselves, what do you want to know?

we asked ot to refer us to the social services department responsible for housing adaptations. They came round the other day and did an assessment , and it is now going to panel, to see if they will fund it. Takes ages . We were referred in march and seen in october, and that is a priority case, with me calling them up getting irate every so often!

Sorry can't help much - but think the situation will vary depending on where you live. Two years ago when MIL was moving into sheltered housing I got her a special shower. If I had gone through the correct procedures she should have waited to see the occupational therapist to 'assess' her - social services warned me it could take up to 8 months, so went to the housing department instead and they managed to supply and instal the shower within a 2 week period. Anyway, I think social services is probably the normal starting point.

Thanks guys - tbh - if it takes that long then we will probably have moved before they assess us.

Ah well - never mind, my dreams of my house one day being in Elle Deco have long since vanished . MIght as well just totally fill it with equipment and clutter and then I won't have to worry about even thinking of keeping it tidy.
