Hi there new to all of this I have a 2 year old beautiful happy son who isn’t reaching any of his communication milestones I first started having concerns when he was 18 months from when he was 1 year old he developed normal came to his name blabbered from about 6 months clapped his hands on command at 9 months would give u something if you said ta ta held out his hand when you said round and round the garden held up his hands when we did pat a cake and loved it always big interest wit the tv watched movies as we have a high needs Nt daughter and with lock down we probably over indulged on movie days which he loved and laughted away at funny things loves interaction loves playing peekaboo all normal behaviour for a baby good eye contact danced to music from a young age started to wave at 15 months by 18 months no progression babbling more or less stopped and turned into a whiny child appeared fustrated didnt understand anything barely came to his name stopped dancing to music it’s like he regressed brought him to gp who suspected fluid in his ears got an urgent private ent hardly tolerated hearing test so was inconclusive ent said it’s all behavioural not hearing I was devastated of course thinking he’ll never understand worried about his future anyways got him referred to early intervention got a private slt assessment said he has a language delay still waiting on early intervention very slow in this country and due to covid a lot of therapist have been pulled to do covid rubbish fast forward to now he’s just gone 2 since august he can say 2 words which is meaningful and starting to say a few more that’s not clear year he still doesn’t point but hold whole hand out or either pulls me over to what he wants dancing to music has returned starting to copy nursery rhymes of the tv can copy a lot of actions and when I sing to him he can do them but it can be selective he won’t do it all the time can point to his nose and head and mouth when he wants to do it comes to his name most of the time now too he can clap and stamp his feet and jump he waves when being waved at and waves bye when going he goes to a toddler group 2 mornings a week he plays Parnell with children and sits with them at lunch he loves blocked and his motor skills are perfect he likes to paint and scribble wit crayons and loves stickers he’s no repetitive behaviours doesn’t play pretent unless I do it first he will copy he likes pushing cars up and down the kitchen and sometimes pretends the tv remote is a car and drives it around no sound tho sorry such a long post does he sound asd or could it just be a language delay

Hello My son was dignosed with autisim this year. he's still my happy lovely boy who is thriving every day.

Hello, thank you very much for your reply. My son had regression around 20 months and now doing most of the things he used to do. He is now 2.5 years and similar to your son. My son loves numbers, colours and alphabet. He loves nursery rhymes and does actions with me. He sometimes points to what he wants but doesn't look at me or let me know that he wants it. He doesn't understand simple commands such as get your shoes, put waterbottle on table etc. He is waiting to see a pediatrician but the waiting list is very long. Could you please tell me what are the reasons you are given that your son is autistic? How is he doing now? Does he understand things you say? Has his speech and language improved?
