SN children

Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

Despite doing it for the right reasons - I think I have let a child I care for down

I look after a child with complex SN

I (& other members of staff) have been working with him quite intensivly for about 3 months and he has come on beautifully

But Portage have now said that as he is 'coping beautifully' he won't get any additional support

This means that now we have done all we can, and we need extra support; we can't have any because he has improved so much

We really needed the extra help now as we have exhausted all our knowledge (iyswim)

& I feel very sad because if we had done the minimum or just maintained the status quo, he would have had lots of additional support

oh

now that's just shit

but mainly

It is so crap because he is profoundly affected by his condition & he will always be limited by it

& by having early intervention we could do so much more

I will try to get us all on as much training as possible - but it is difficult (& expensive - which shouldn't matter but it does)

i don't think you have let him down 'tis the system that has done that

He needs to use PECS (I think)

But we don't know how/what to do - we were hoping either portage or SALT would get us started - but now we don't really know where to start

He is 20 m & we are getting emergent words (well syllables)- but he gets so frustrated with us that we can't understand him (I do know he is young)

I am worried that we might do 'it' wrong & unfortunately as a childminder I can't afford to pay for that sort of course, it is about 40% of my monthly income
