child masking at school and telling lies

I work in a junior school and although out of catchment for my children I do know a few children who attend. We currently have a little girl at our school who is related quite distantly to my DH. She has been telling her mum all sorts about what is happening at school. She is saying that other children spit at her and call her weird (we have never seen any of this behaviour!!) she also says the other children steal her lunch (today a TA witnessed her putting bits of her lunch in other childrens bags!!). There is lots of incidents - basically her mother believes everything her child tells her. She is relatively compliant at school although she tells her mother that she sits in the toilet and cries all day. I try not to get involved but the child I see at school is not overly unhappy but her mother has just posted all over fb the things her DD is having to put up with at school. I do know she does mask at school and as soon as she gets home she breaks down but is getting harder for the school to try and work with her as the things she tells her mum just aren't true. Could this be signs of autism?? Her mother will not seek any type of help for her as she just believes the school are failing her.
