Need to rant about this stupid woman

Anyway
Dd is in a language unit. She is 8 and has AS and ADHD (dx last year).
When dd was 4 she got a place in the language unit as at that time she had a severe language disorder and no asd dx.
Yesterday bumped into this woman whose ds used to go to the unit and then moved him. She said she was sick of all the "autistic" children being there when a language unit is for language impaired children only. I said to her how many straight forward language impaired children did she know that didn't have anything else. I also said that surely it's not about labels but about the child and what suits them. The language unit has worked wonders for dd and she has come on with her language so much since going there. I also don't think that an asd unit would suit my dd really. The school have also said to me that they look at primary needs and quite often children with an asd dx have language as there primary need.
She then went onto say that ADHD is not seen as a disability but is a behaviour problem. I was open mouthed by this point.
FFS why are there so many ignorant people in this world????

Ignore her, ignorant cow!!!

My ds(6.9) has asd and a severe language delay, school life would be so muxh more difficult for him if it were'nt for the language unit.

Disorder I mean, not delay.

she sounds a delight doesn't she. Mind you I think some of the restrictive policies for lang unit admissions don't help - DS would have to be vetted by an ed psych before he can be admitted to a lang unit up here -children with developmental delays other than speech aren@t given places {anger}

I just don't agree with all this dx crap. I mean each child is different. Surely it's the needs of the child that matters? They are all individual and as long as what the school has to offer helps then what is the big deal? Language difficulties are a part of asd and there is such a grey area between language disorders and asds anyway. I mean in dd's unit if they haven't got asd in the unit then they have traits of some description. Just makes me

What a cow. Well if there's any truth in Karma then one day she'll get hers. She is probably in denial about her DC. Sounds like you told her very nicely what's what though.

Do you know it just surprises me how competitive people are even with sn. Surely we should all support each other FFS

blossomhill - think it's down to money as places are so limited that they are so restricted.

Yeah I know and thing is dd wasn't given her place lightly either. A huge 3 day lea meeting took place and it was the lea who suggested she went to that school not me!
