he has AS (hence why i am putting this in SN section) and refuses point blank to take his medicine dr prescribed yesterday. he only has to take 1 spoonful twice a day but i havent managed to get one into him yet without a complete meltdown last night (even then he gagged and then spat it out!).

any helpful tips? or else the prob is going to get worse and we will prob have to end up having IV antibiotics, and we dont want that!
oh, he is nearly 5 btw!

My DS has AS and I have had this problem in the pasr. (He is hugely difficult with food of any description).
I have usually resorted to bribery I am afraid-a sweet he really likes, (put in his hand for him to put in his mouth immediately) to take away the taste of the medicine.

Have you tried hiding it in juice. Its the only way I can get medicine down my younger 2!!

I have to put it into his drinks otherwise I've got no chance, as it would end up just all over me instead. Is your ds able to understand that if he doesn't have it, he might well have to have a needle in his hand, or would that just contribute to a further meltdown?

thanks!

i tried bribery. he is very very keen on sweets of any description (obviously- hes a child!) but sadly as i give in to him more often than i ought to, i think he thinks its a bit of a poor bribe and he will get them anyway. so have been also trying the if you dont take it, you wont get the sweets iyswim- reverse bribery i guess!
the syringe is an idea though can see it going everywhere but in his mouth
the medicine is vile and bright yellow so no disguising it in juice i dont think.
will persist with the bribery. i may have to bribe with something bigger thats all. macwoozy- i have tried to explain to him but he kind of hears what he wants to hear really and tunes out the rest so i doubt if he actually processed it lol!

Have you tried it in a syringe, that goes in the mouth? The novelty factor can win hear and you can force it in a bit better. Otherwise I do chocolate buttons or something that is really desired. If I say I bet you can't drink that, that can work too.

I crush up DS2s tablets and mix them in with a big spoonful of nesquik milkshake powder. No milk though. It works for us! Good luck - it took us a while to find something that worked.
