Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

Is there any information about autism more advanced than the cygnets course?

I've got 5 dc aged between nearly 15 and 7. Nearly 15 year old was diagnosed with aspergers syndrome aged 9 and 7 year old was diagnosed with asd with low level of need (which is probably the same thing as aspergers syndrome) 6 months ago. My 13 year old has sensory issues that were diagnosed aged 7 but is also showing signs of ASD. Getting a diagnosis for him has been problematic and we are going round and round in circles at the moment.

I did a 1 day course for parents about sensory issues in 2016 which was really good. Currently 1 week into a 4 week course that is the same as cygnets but for parents of children who don't meet the criteria for an autism diagnosis. It's good but I feel that I'm beyond that level now because although I'm at this stage with dc2, I already have dc1 who is now 6 years post diagnosis.

Is there a course that's like "cygnets level 3" or something that I can ask to go on. The senco at my 13 year old's school seemed really excited that she found me this "cygnets but not cygnets" thing, I feel a bit bad for saying I already knew all that. I'm going to give it another chance this week and i admit it was really nice to talk to other parents of children with social/communication problems, especially as my local asd and general sen support groups haven't been running since march last year.

Ellie not much help but similar feelings here.

I did the early bird plus course with our senior educational phycologist and I felt the same, she was telling me things I could of told her 5 years ago. She was really buzzing on the first day telling us we would learn loads and this would change our lives then after the 6 week course I was thinking is that it?? 🙈🙈 ds is way way past all that stuff with his behaviours and felt I’d wasted 6 weeks of my life! If only a weighted blanket and a pair of ear defenders worked hey!!

There are free webinars / workshops available online Yvonne newbold (more for challenging behaviour) and these ones (not sure if any help but I think these sort of things repeat much of what you will probably already know) contact.org.uk/help-for-families/family-workshops-and-events/

I’ve read the incredible years parenting handbook & the explosive child and didn’t sadly get much from those either.

Will watch with interest x
