2 years ago ds was out of school and we started fighting our LEA.

1st they refused to asess him despite him being out of school for months, we started tribunal proceedings and they backedown the day before.

2nd we asked for him to be placed in a special school as he couldnt cope with mainstream, they refused, we started tribunal proceedings and they backed down the day before and agreed to place him in the school of our choice.

3rd, they refused to put his dx of AS on his statement as it came from a private psychologist so we started tribunal proceedings and we were due to go tomorrow.

On thursday at 5pm the MANAGER of the whole of SN came to my house and hand delivered me the statement with the correct dx on.!!!!!!!!!!!!
not before she phoned sendist and said they were short staffed and didnt think they could get the statement to me in time, the sendist clerk told them the onus was on them and that failure to give me what i wanted would mean the tribunal going ahead.

So after 2 years of being threatened with court action, accused of fabricating ds symptoms and being generally messed about mike is now thriving wonderfully in his school, he is on course for getting top scores in his SATS this year despite 2 years out of education and he is a wonderful hardly anxious boy who is a delight to be around, a far cry from the boy who was so depressed with his old school that he wanted to die and wouldnt come out of his room for months.

and im so proud of him.

jenk1 · 19/11/2007 13:51

well ive just asked for a statutory asessment of dd,s SN.

no doubt they will turn her down as she is not "severe enough" despite having hemiplegia, suspected ASD and incontinence problems................

here i go again,

Wonderful wonderful news Jenk.
So pleased for you.
I note (am a salt) that this backing down just before the crunch) is a common tactic.

They seem to enjoy pushing people to their limit.

Well done.
