Hi, we have had a very stressful couple of years and recently had an ASD diagnosis for 4 year old Son. He is due to start school this Sept, he is by no means ready. I have spoken to his allocated school and had a chat re defering and i am coming up against alot of resistance and that i'd be disadvantaging him.
He is significantly speech delayed very anxious and alot of things trigger meltdowns, sleep is also awful. I feel so worn down and exhausted i feel like i am shouting through a glass box with school.
Has anyone been in a similar position? How did you successfully defer your child until the sept after 5th Birthday, thank you.

Hi, there's a lot of advice online, and a summerborns group on Facebook.

First step is you need to work out who the admissions authority is for the school. It depends on the type of school. Then find out what "evidence" they need to see.

The summer born campaigners are very militant but I have to say that my son got much better support at school than at his nursery, so it may have been better if he'd been there than struggling another year at nursery.
