Autism - would you go for assessment or not?

We believe our son maybe on autism range, and probably he has it quite mildly. Would you push for diagnosis if you were us? What value does it add?
Is there any disadvantages in getting diagnosis?

Getting a diagnosis means access to support, as well as more clout when asking professionals, e.g. schools, to adapt to meet a child's needs. A child left undiagnosed might later have extreme struggles (e.g. at onset of puberty) even if their needs appear to have been managed earlier on, and without support and diagnosis in place early, this can be difficult to fix later.
