Very proud mummy moment - dd1 is walking!

I always said that when dd1 walked independently it would be one of the happiest days of my life. It is something I have dreamed about often. And she did it today!

She is 5 years old with severe learning disabilities and low muscle tone in her legs. She has been cruising a bit and walking holding a hand for about 8 months or so. But today I was changing my dd2's nappy and looked up to see her walking right across the room. Not just a couple of steps but about 10 or 12 of them!

She did it several more times this evening and looked just so pleased with herself. I don't think she understood at all why mummy was crying!

heartinthecountry forgive me if Im wrong but did your dd have Infantile spasms when younger??

I know a few mnetters have children who had them and I seem to remember that you might be one of them??

Oh how fantastic for you both

heartinthecountry · 12/11/2007 13:26

Thanks everyone.

Of course nothing is straightforward. Today I was called in to school because she had 3 strong seizures this morning. They are definitely getting worse. It just seems that not everything can be good at the same time .

Lourobert - yes you remembered right, my dd1 had infantile spasms. Still does actually. She has syndromatic IS (Aicardi Syndrome) which means she may have them all her life rather than 'grow out' of them like most do.
