What random stuff do your ASD kids want for Christmas?

Anyone else's ASD kid totally dismissive of the Smyths' catalogue in favour of random obscure stuff that feeds into a highly-specific, ASD special interest

This year/past years my kid has asked for:

A little gold bell
An orange and white London overground train toy (they don't make them)
A translucent, light-blue recorder
The Problem-Blob (a character from a show called Numberjacks - which is now 10 years out of date, only shown on YouTube and has absolutely no merchandise available anywhere.)
A book about escalators - I managed to find one!

Anyone else?

Ds has asked me for a cat scratching post and roomba hoover 😂😂

But yes definitely fits with his asd specific interests and he’s another that rips the pages out of the smyths catalogues rather than picks toys from it. He’s not interested at all.

I just buy him things I know he’ll like. I have got him a schliech cat set which has a mini scratch post, I draw the line at a life sized one as we don’t have any cats! 😆

That's awesome. You've just gotta love them....

I love this thread!

My DS wanted a back scratcher last year and he went on and on and on about it! (And when he had a little money left over from Xmas pennies, he bought a miniature shopping trolley!)

This year, he wants a toy fish that writhes about on the floor. He saw it on one of those JML type adverts, advertising a cat toy.Grin

My child is also non verbal and loves water, we were thinking of a water feature that u can get in garden centres
x2boys · 05/12/2020 15:02

Lol I have thought about that ,but it's would have to put it in the garden his birthdays in may though ,I got him a hose pipe one year he loved it 😂

You can get mini water feature type things for cats and dogs to drink out of, which might be workable indoors.

Last year my son asked for a sieve, because they feel nice on his face. Father Christmas bought him a full size sieve to enjoy, plus a travel sieve (tea strainer). The cool bit - and I'm sure you can all relate - is how completely thrilled he was with it. I love being able to make him so happy.

A selection of face flannels as she likes the smell.

Hugbear · 10/12/2020 00:18

Got my son a mini shopping basket with artificial fruit and veg.

@x2boys you can get toy sinks in smyths
You add water to and it comes out the tap
Comes with plastic dishes too

Our son when he was 4 wanted a small tin of baked beans. Santa, obliged.

When he got back to school he was asked to draw his best present and yes it was the baked beans.

He still has it on his bookshelf and he’s 15.

An adult sized oodie (he's 8, and on the small side) and 'anything related to bioluminescence' - I found him a mug with bioluminescent animals on that change colour when you add hot water.
Plus everything Harry Potter, of course

DS is now 15 and is taking a tiny, tiny bit of interest in his appearance - he's asked for a pair of Adidas joggers but they must have the three stripes because that is 'fly'. I've never been happier to go to Sports Direct.
