Hi, just wondering if anyone can shed a bit of light on this for me please? My lb used to love to watch films (toy story ect) but for the last couple of months when we try to put one on he goes in a meltdown. He will watch tv shows. He is on the asd pathway so we can only assume it's part of it but would love to know why he's like this now. I miss having them cosy movie nights with him Sad thanks if anyone can help

@Starfish25 Maybe it's a phase? We have been through phases with my son. Sometimes you never really find out the reason for things. I would accept for the meantime films are distressing for him and maybe find a fave TV show to enjoy together instead! 😊

My son took against films around age 3. We later found that cartoons were the biggest problem. He was better with live action. He also really seemed to hate chase scenes which I thought might be a sensory thing. And virtually every U film in the world has some sort of "mild peril" chase scene somewhere to freak him out. He actually got on better with some PG and even 12 films - I think because the peril was more psychological - menace rather than pursuit - and it went over his head.

The first film he was happy to watch was Maleficent, and he was terrified of the mildest cartoons like Minions for a long time.

I want to tell you there was a happy conclusion. He is 11 now and it is still a bit of an issue but there are some films he will tolerate, but he still objects to me putting them on and he still won't watch any cartoon films except Boss Baby.
