Please no judgment :(
My brother is 21 years old and has special needs and mental health issues. Our mum died 7 years ago which my brother still struggles to cope with.
Our dad is my brothers full time carer (as I have moved out) and my brother is becoming extremely difficult to deal with. My brother cannot do anything for himself but is refusing to let my dad help out!! My brother is refusing to wash him, refusing to let anyone into his bedroom to clean therefore it is an absolute state and smells so bad. My brother is a 21 year old big lad therefore my dad cannot make him do anything he doesn’t want to do. My dad even tried to take my brother doctors for help but he refused to go.
My brother is self harming and threaten to kill himself if my dad tries to help him. The only thing my dad is allowed to do for him is make him dinner.
My dad is getting older and has sciatica and is struggling to cope with my brother mentally and physically and has almost given up caring for him. I worry for my brother and my dad.
I am unable to look after my brother as I work full time and tbh i really couldn’t deal with it all at 24.
Social services was involved when my mum died but he has seemed to have fallen through their net.
I believe my brother needs to be in a care home or assisted living but I am unsure on where to start?? Can anyone help :(
