EP report and transfer to secondary

Had an EP visit to school last Jan. EP also assessed DS as part of EHCP process last July.

I have heard that an EP report only is valid for 1 year.

So should we be asking for a new one from the LA this autumn coming, when it will be time to name a school for secondary (we have a mainstream with enhanced resource unit in mind but it has limited places so will need all my evidence to ensure we can prove normal mainstream won't fit the bill).

I think you will need a new one. One that's written to support an ERP placement, because unless DS is currently in a primary enhanced resource unit then it's unlikely the current report does.

IPSEA say reports older than 2 years aren't useful (admittedly they say that about assessment during EHCNA). And LA's don't have to carry out a reassessment of needs within 6 months. With a transition of phase and over a year old I think you would have a good argument for the LA to seek an updated one.

That's what I was thinking too.

Thank you - useful wording for me to use in next email to them.
