Does my toddler need to be tested

Hi my little boy is 20 months old, people keep suggesting he may be autistic. He doesn’t say any words he has said mum and Nan before but doesn’t so much anymore. He is starting to make different sounds now. I am not too worried about his speech because I think it will come it’s other people who are. He also has great understanding so he will get things you ask for, he points, waves, role plays

The other element is his social interaction. He doesn’t like it if people he doesn’t know come in the house or talk to him he cry’s until they go away. He also hates groups and soft play and just wants to leave. But then on the flip side he’s quite happy to run off into the crowd when we went to haven holiday park where it’s very loud and busy. Which makes me think he doesn’t have issues with noise or crowds

Any help of words of advice? Should he be tested?

My dd was similar in terms of speech at this age and we saw speech therapist who helped us encourage more speech development using the book more than words - this is an excellent book. Definitely push for a hearing test. If this is glue ear then sorting it out allows speech to develop - can be really hard to spot glue ear related hearing loss. We missed it until dd was 2 - she then had grommets and speech recovered.
