Book recommendations for parents of kids with ASD /ADHD?

Just starting my journey into SEN with my 7 year old and would love any reading recommendations you have.

We have a few generalised parenting books (How to Talk so kids will listen, 123 Magic, Whole Brained Child etc)

Looking for something to help me process his probable diagnosis and engage with him better.

I dipped in and out of a library copy of Autism: How to raise a happy autistic child by Jessie Hewitson - found the chapter on girls great (admittedly less relevant for you!) and now DD2 has just been diagnosed I’m about to invest in my own copy!

How to raise a happy autistic child is good.

Other good books are:

  • Uniquely Human
  • Luke Beardon’s autism and Asperger syndrome in children
  • Hanen books for communication if that’s a concern
  • Out of sync child/has fun for sensory issues

Personal testaments I enjoyed:

  • The reason I jump
  • Toast - autism in the early years
  • Iris Grace

General (non-autism) books which are also good:

  • The book you wish your parents had read
  • Calmer, easier, happier boys
  • Raising human beings

Thanks so much, I've just ordered the reason I jump and one recommended from another thread.

I also started reading a Kindle book which was free with Prime called Neuro Tribes, it's v interesting to me so far. My in laws are all computer geeks it feels very relevant.

When I was a secondary SENCO we bought copies of Kathy Hoopmann's 'All Dogs Have ADHD' and 'All Cats have Asperger's Syndrome.'
They are very accessible and useful for reading together with your child.

For ADHD I'd reckon "ADHD living without breaks" it was our one and only read during the process of our DS's diagnosis.

The Explosive Child
The out of sync child

Will look for that All Cats have Aspergers, thank you @rosegoldwatcher!
