WHY DO OTHER PEEPS HAVE NO RESPECT FOR DDS WHEELCHAIR?

MY DAGHTER HAS GONE TO FRANCE WITH A GROUP.
SHE TOOK HER 19 YEAR OLD CARER WITH HER WHOS VERY RESPONSIBLE, WHEN I SAW HOW THE COACH STAFF WERE LOADING HER POWER WHEELCHAIR THEY SEEMED TO BE TRYING TO BASH IT ABOUT TO GET IT ON THE COACH SO I LOADED IT MYSELF.
I RANG THE ORGANISERS YESTODAY AND THEY TOLD ME HER WHEELCHAIR WIRE GOT CAUGHT ON A RAMP AND IS NOW NOT WORKING SO HER CARER HAS BEEN PUSHING AROUND HER HEAVY W/CHAIR PLUS MY 8 STONE DAUGHTER ALL THE WAY THROUGH FRANCE! HE THEN SAID 'DONT WORRY IT HAS'NT STOPPED HER DOING WHAT SHE WANTS TO DO???????????? I'M SURE MY DAUGHTER AND HER CARER WILL TELL A DIFFERENT STORY WHEN THEY COME HOME TOMMORROW .
I JUST FEEL SOOO MAD THAT GENERALLY PEEPS W/CHAIRS ARE NOT TREATED WITH ANY RESPECT WHEN IT COMES TO GROUPS ETC..AFTER ALL THESE ARE MY DAUGHTERS 'LEGS' NOW W/CHAIR ENGINEERS WONT BE OUT TILL TUES AND ANY HOPES WE HAD OF TAKING HER OUT THE BANK HOL W/END IN HER POWER CHAIR WILL BE DASHED? I'M SOOO ANGRY THAT THIS COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED.
THE HOLIDAY FOR HER COST £380 PLUS CARERS WAGES. THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE TAKEN MY DAUGHTER ARE A 'VERY RESPONSIBLE' GROUP WITHIN THE COMMUNITY????? THEY HAVE TAKEN AWAY NOT ONLY HER INDEPENDANCE BUT ALSO HER CONFIDENCE FIRST AND LAST TIME SHE'LL BE GOING AWAY WITH THEM.

Sounds awful for your dd. Some people just don't give a stuff about others equipment, especially when it comes to loading things up for group trips. I know its no consolation, but at least she is with her very responsible carer who hopefully has tried to 'soften the blow' a bit. I would be draughting a pretty strong letter of complaint to someone as we speak!!!

bullet123 · 24/08/2007 12:55

I'm not surprised you're fuming.

salsmum · 24/08/2007 14:21

How was dd's holiday, Salsmum?

Surely they must have realised how expensive and relatively fragile the wheelchair controls are? Grrrr!

Tis sods bl**dy law that a week after buying something you will always find it cheaper somewhere else the next day/week.

I hope you have a good weekend.

Thanx coppertop,
Well Sal did manage to have a lil bit of fun she grouped up with some of the other teens [able n disabled] but said the adults were a nightmare.
They tried to put her in 1 room and her carer 3 floors above .
The restuarant they used every night had four steps.
Bed at 8pm if you were 8 or 20 [carers who were sometimes younger than cared for person went to bar after 8pm].
My girl was asked to sit on seperate table with her carer?????????? away from group.
When i picked my girl up her power chair had been dismantled under coach???
her motor is fcuked, her tray is missing screws,
her brackets to hold her seating system secure were snapped. .
This is the 1st time sal has been away without me except for school trips and is it any wonder?????
I know some of the other kids chairs were damaged but it was only me who was shouting n moaning????? why do the other parents let them get away with it? year after year are they just wanting kids outta sight at any cost??????
cant mention the name of the group that took her....might get arrested.

I am spitting chips here on your behalf. if other people are prepared to take this crap and not kick up a fuss then they are bonkers - don't let this lie - it's completely unnaceptable. Shout, stomp, threaten and make sure that you are refunded and costs plus potentially compensation for the distress caused during the trip. If the group has some sort of governing body or regulatory group overseeing them then fire off complaint letters all over the place.

I think having a child with SN has eradicated any self-restraint I may once have had, and now I feel quite happy to make a fuss until people admit they have royally cocked up.

Good Luck.

bullet123 · 28/08/2007 10:56

Agree, it's completely unacceptable of that group to act as they did. They showed no respect and no wish to really help.
I say name and shame, you won't get arrested and these attitudes need to be brought to people's attention. What about a letter being written to their head office and if no answr appears, or if it is unsatisfactory go to the papers.

Thanx for your support mums it was actually kent police
I'm trying to get her w/chair sorted SERCO say out tomorrow if motor in????
I attended a w/chair clinic at 10am for a w/chair assesment at local hospital.
I was told by o.t. that a patient had gone in front of me even though her time was after mine I waited an hour and then walked out .
Imagine how i felt when the 'patient' who'd pinched my slot turned out to be the same mum that i spoke to during the week and she told me that she'd cancelled that slot. so they'd obviously offered it to me!!!!! So she'd not only cancelled but she knew when i spoke to her in the week that i was going at 10am. she only lives up the road from hospital so she'd obviously got there early .
She came out just as i was clamping my daughter in to our van and mumbled 'its their fault'....some friend she was!
i was sooo angry could barely speak.
I'm now trying to get in touch with management for w/chair clinic...got more chance of meeting the pope!
I do feel really annoyed and let down by both
the other mum who i know and the w/chair services GOD WHY IS LIFE SUCH A FCUKIN STRUGGLE?.
